(Special 2-day course for Academic Staff & Researchers)

Audience:  This workshop is designed specially for Faculty Staff, Researchers, and Post-graduate students who are currently using, or interested in using, any of the .NET technologies in curriculum and research.

Lecturer: This workshop will be delivered by Dr. Wong Chek Yoon, currently a Microsoft Visiting Fellow at Faculty of IT, Multimedia University.

Description:

The .NET platform is Microsoft's most significant platform shift since the move from DOS to Windows NT. The .NET platform consists of two equally important technologies: the Common Language Runtime and Web Services.  The Common Language Runtime provides a secure, type-oriented runtime environment for components written in any language. Web Services support building Internet-friendly applications and services using open Internet standards such as XML, HTTP, and SOAP.

The .NET Essentials workshop provides technical coverage of the atoms of the .NET platform, focusing on how the various technologies fit together as well as looking at how various aspects of the platform advance the field of component software and distributed application development.

This 2-day workshop is intended to provide the introductory fundamental skills to utilise the .NET Framework for web services development and projects. Faculty will have the foundation to explore the use of .NET for academic projects. The format of the workshop is lecture presentations followed by hands-on lab exercises to reinforce the concepts. Attendees will also have the opportunity to discuss specific projects ideas with the lecturer.
